Innovative and durable formwork system for the realization of deck gaps

Product applied during dike reinforcement project in Zwolle

Foundiz BV, based in Etten-Leur, specializes in the sale and rental of foundation machines, related equipment and various construction materials for a variety of soil improvement and foundation work. One of the products that the company offers the market is the well thought-out formwork system of the English manufacturer Dawson Construction Plant (DCP). An innovative solution that is ideally suited for the realization of concrete cover gaps on sheet piling, combi walls and variants thereof.

The durable DCP formwork system stands for simplicity, flexibility and ultimate ease of use, according to the words of Patrick van der Schaaf, director of Foundiz. "The system is composed of steel supports that can be quickly and simply attached to a sheet pile or combi pile construction. Without welding, of course. Then so-called Soffit panels can be attached to these supports. These are 3 meters long and equipped with sliding aluminum strips that accurately follow the shape of the sheet piling or combi piling in question. Regardless of the profile, shape or variations thereof." The Soffit panels can even be used in combination with pile walls. In addition, they are equipped with a special hand rail, which makes working at height and along the water safe. Once the installation of the versatile Soffit panels (which form the bottom of the final formwork) is complete, the edge box can be installed. This can be done either in the traditional way or using a system formwork.

Practical application

Over the years Foundiz has contributed with its extensive arsenal of foundation equipment to a variety of works mainly in the GWW. One of these is the ongoing work Dijkversterking Stadsdijken Zwolle. "The Stadsdijken in Zwolle offer the city and its inhabitants protection against the water from the Zwolle IJsselkanaal and Zwartewater canals," Patrick explains. "To ensure this also towards the future and thus keep the city water safe, some 7.5 kilometers of the 8.9 kilometers long dike will be reinforced. The project is a great example where the DCP formwork system we supplied is being used. In Zwolle, our customer Dura Vermeer is using it to realize concrete deck gaps on steel sheet pile walls."

Key benefits of the DCP system:

- Sheet piling and combi walls remain intact because no welding is required;
- Supports are easy and quick to install;
- Resistant to tidal action;
- Available in various designs;
- There is no need for sawing and traditional chipping;
- Enables rapid demoulding;
- Durable.
