As a civil engineering and roads consultant, you are a management consultant and sparring partner at the operational and tactical level, and involved from A to Z in projects in public space. Your specialty: roads and underground and above-ground infrastructure. A challenging and varied job with plenty of room for personal emphasis and innovation.

Your role

As civil engineering and roads consultant you can make an important contribution to keeping Amersfoort livable and accessible. 

In this role, you will work on the management and replacement of roads in our public spaces. You will have the opportunity to translate your love of the profession into innovation. Because it is precisely by looking differently that we can realize the challenges we face. You advise on opportunities and possibilities within redevelopment projects and are involved from A to Z.

You can count on a lot of variety. One moment you are sparring with colleagues about management issues, the next you are reviewing new plans or researching technological solutions. You will have regular contact with residents, partners, government and other stakeholders. Depending on your experience and ambition, there is room to work on policy in addition to technical and management tasks. In short, a challenging job for an inquisitive consultant who wants to make a difference.

Examples of your work:

• You are involved in public space projects from tender to execution. In Amersfoort we work a lot in direction and that means you fulfill the role of principal towards related parties and contractors.
• You coordinate both inside and outside the organization with professionals, residents, interest groups, agencies and companies. You identify questions and make the connection between internal tasks and external wishes. For example, you attend construction meetings and working groups both internally and externally.
• You will be responsible for executive management in the areas of asphalt, signage, elements and cables and pipes.
• You will review specification and contract documents for accuracy, completeness and feasibility and manage the resulting contracts.
• You will prepare cost estimates, conduct negotiations and monitor budgets.
• You will contribute content to policy development within the department's field of work.

Who do you work with

You will work in the department Leefomgeving (about 100 employees). In this department, colleagues work with partners and residents to manage and improve public space in Amersfoort. You will work with your colleagues from the civil engineering team and the area managers of the Municipality of Amersfoort. The atmosphere in the department is involved and informal.

The roads consultant position is a versatile position in which you will be involved in all facets of management. You will think about the right time for maintenance, determine whether the approach should be large or small-scale. You will make considerations in the areas of finance, sustainability and feasibility. In addition, as initiator of projects you and your colleagues have a direct influence on what the project will achieve. out there happens. This makes the work tangible and meaningful in order to contribute to the livability of the city.

You are enthusiastic, analytical and strong in collaboration. Through experience or education, you have the right subject matter knowledge for this job. Moreover, you bring the right communication skills and a dose of guts to properly advise the various stakeholders. You are also able to look beyond the borders of your field. You see what needs to be done and can translate this into a proposal that different parties can work with. Furthermore, you bring:

• HBO or wo working and thinking level. You have an education in civil engineering or similar.
• Experience with project-based work is a plus.
