Temporary bike lane quick fix during road works

If an existing bike path is temporarily unusable due to road construction work, a temporary bike path made from recycled cable granules offers a fast, sustainable and cost-effective solution. The bike path slabs are easy to apply and safe for bike path-usual traffic. However, a temporary bike path has even more advantages.

"Our temporary bike paths are the textbook example of circularity," explains Max Steiner, Head of Operations at Euro Tec, the company behind temporaryfietspaden.nl. Euro Tec has earned its spurs in the events industry. During concerts in soccer stadiums such as the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam and Stadion Feijenoord in Rotterdam but also internationally, the turf is protected by their temporary stadium flooring. The advantage of experience in this industry is that Euro Tec's team is efficient and flexible. "When we get a request, we always ask through. Because with the right questions you get the right information. And the better the preparation, the better the end result. Whether it's a stadium floor or a temporary bike path, we want our clients to be more than satisfied."

Strong and safe

The temporary bike path consists of robust floor plates made from recycled cable granules. The plates are impact and wear resistant and can withstand all weather conditions. Measuring approximately 120 by 80 centimeters, the plates fit together seamlessly thanks to a special groove system, which prevents sliding and subsidence. The studs on the top of the slabs provide excellent grip and safety. Euro Tec handles the installation itself and also prepares the surface if required. "Because," Max explains, "the firmer and flatter the surface, the better the temporary bike path."

Euro Tec has constructed temporary bicycle paths for various clients, including Rijkswaterstaat and Dura Vermeer. During the renovation of the Haringvliet Bridge, a temporary bicycle and footpath was constructed for the Haringvliet Bicycle Stimulation Project. "Cyclists had to cross by ferry, so we constructed a temporary bike path to and from the ferry. The limited space and curves created a challenge, but by cutting the rectangular floor boards to size, curves could be incorporated into the path." Also in Schiedam, Euro Tec constructed a 240-meter temporary bicycle path for Dura Vermeer, including curves.

Three times durable

According to Hans Steiner, Managing Director of Euro Tec, the temporary bike path is a sustainable choice for road works. "It is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than a bicycle path made of asphalt or concrete slabs. What makes it extra sustainable is that it is laid and removed manually, without heavy equipment. Moreover, we clean the slabs intensively after use, so they have a long service life. This makes our bicycle paths particularly interesting for EMVI tenders, because they meet the most stringent requirements."
