The toughest assignments in the most extreme conditions

As this magazine went to press, Iveco was still busy selecting several trucks to display at the truck manufacturer's spacious TKD booth. Sure to be seen are at least an X-Way from the company Vreeker Vastgoed and an S-Way from W.J. Dijkshoorn Grondwerken. Furthermore, Iveco is focusing in Almere on the X-Way and T-Way ranges. There may also be exciting defense equipment on display.... 

"Vreeker Vastgoed's X-Way AD350X42Y/PS ON was delivered by Iveco dealer Veekro Bedrijfswagen from Zwaagdijk," says operations marketer Dolf Baggerman. "This powerhouse is equipped with a Cursor 11 engine with 420 hp and has the AD short cab with low roof. The complete body was supplied by Vlarotech Carrosserie & Hydrauliek Specialist from Benningbroek."

Vreeker's X-Way has a very compact 50-ton-meter HMF Group A/S truck-mounted loader crane equipped with Fly-Jib and a Hyva Titan Hook system that is completely integrated into the well-known Hyva Flexframe, creating an extremely stable combination. All around the vehicle is finished with stainless steel fenders, boxes and various storage facilities.

Cladding

Vreeker deploys this Iveco for the placement of, for example, facade cladding of office buildings at any desired level. In addition, steel stairs, both indoors and outdoors, but also steel planters, for example, are brought and placed on location with the crane. This part is called MMG and the motto of this company is to perform craftsmanship and customization in the field of engineering, machine building, construction work and machine maintenance. Its customers are mainly in the agricultural, construction and architectural and industrial sectors. Moreover, with its hook-lift system, Vreeker can also remove or deliver containers with rubble or soil for the construction of new houses. 

Real workhorse

"W.J. Dijkshoorn Grondwerken's Iveco S-Way AS440S57TX/FP is a real workhorse," Baggerman continues. "With no less than 570 hp, this truck has the largest possible engine capacity within the Iveco range. This tough construction truck fits in just right at the Technische Kontakt Dagen." W.J. Dijkshoorn Grondwerken is a small company in which father and son work together. They perform all types of work in earthworks, road construction and hydraulic engineering, such as earthworks for road construction projects, preparing plots of land for construction, constructing water basins, digging in pipelines and installing sheet piling and shoring. In addition to this work with excavators, they also perform low-loader transport from 1 to 32 tons.

X-WAY 

In addition, Iveco is focusing on the Iveco X-Way and Iveco T-Way ranges at TKD. According to Baggerman, the modular, mission-oriented approach of the X-Way with its wide choice of features and components, along with its structural strength and low empty weight, offers "ultimate flexibility to adapt the vehicle to the specific requirements of a wide variety of applications."    

With the automated HI-Tronix gearbox with 12 or 16 speeds, one can enjoy a wide range of features, such as Rocking Mode, Off-road Mode, Creep Mode and four reverse gears, this to tackle off-road roads with ease."

T-WAY

The IVECO T-Way, heir to the famous Trakker, is the vehicle for the toughest jobs in the most extreme conditions. "With its perfect combination of robustness, reliability and comfort, it is designed to meet all requirements in terms of productivity, payload and safety," Baggerman explains. "With the legendary robustness of its chassis and components, it is built for extreme off-road missions, with a market-leading GVW of 40 tons."

With HI-Traction, advanced engineering and technological solutions, the T-Way truck can be trusted to deliver consistently high performance in the most severe off-road applications and challenging environments. The Iveco T-Way offers a wide choice of Euro 6 diesel engines for all applications. The engines, with two displacement sizes and outputs ranging from 340 to 510 hp, deliver hefty power.

Emission-free trucks

Iveco Group and Nikola Corporation recently announced that Iveco Group will take full ownership of the joint venture set up by the two companies in 2019 to market battery-electric and hydrogen trucks. Iveco Group will pay Nikola 44 million euros for the transaction.

Both Iveco and Nikola now want to sharpen their own focus on heavy transport. Iveco Group will focus on Europe for the further development and market entry of its own battery and hydrogen trucks, including the rollout of its GATE financing model. Nikola will focus its activities on North America, with an integrated approach to its customers, offering BEV, FCEV and hydrogen infrastructure through the Hyla brand. It is not yet known what the acquisition of the joint venture means for the brand names with which Iveco/Nikola operates in Europe. Iveco may start using its own name, but has also negotiated the right to continue using the Nikola name.

Iveco Group becomes full owner of the joint venture in Ulm, Germany. Iveco Group will also receive a license for free access to and further development of vehicle control software for the jointly developed BEV and FCEV. Nikola gets the Iveco S-Way technology license for North America plus the associated parts supply from Iveco Group and becomes joint owner of the intellectual property of Generation 1 eAxles, technology developed jointly with FPT Industrial.

Battery-electric (BEV) trucks developed by this joint venture are already on the road in the U.S., while orders are already being collected in Europe. Fuel cell trucks are expected to hit the road next year.
