As an equipment manager or business owner, you sometimes find yourself in situations where you need to sell one or more machines. The trick to making good decisions here is to look at three key factors: effort, timing and return on investment. Ritchie Bros. offers several options to help you sell (land) construction equipment. Each option has advantages and disadvantages.
Ritchie Bros. is best known in the market for its exciting auctions. Previously live on location in places like Moerdijk and the German town of Meppen, just across the border near Emmen, but now only online. Did you know that every year we help tens of thousands of customers to sell precisely in different ways? With a customized solution for every situation.
Companies that regularly sell equipment want to have complete control over this process. They handle inquiries from interested parties themselves, negotiate the price and take care of the paperwork. Websites like Mascus are great for this purpose. The classified ads attract many potential buyers and it is very easy to upload your own machine description and photos. Such an online platform can be visited 24/7, is available in 38 languages and offers optimal control over sales price and process at low prices. Downsides are that you have to do everything yourself and don't know how long it will take to close a deal.
For those who have little time or insufficient expertise to be closely involved in this process, it may be of interest to outsource the sale. Ritchie Bros. offers Marketplace-E as a service for this. Set a minimum price and choose whether you want to sell from your own location or one of our yards. A team of online specialists then handles the inspection, online listing, buyer inquiries, viewings, negotiations, paperwork and payment. Although the commission is higher than for a classified ad and it often takes longer to close a deal, this platform offers good results for minimal effort.
If you want to be more or less certain that your equipment will be sold quickly, selling at auction is a good option. The unreserved auctions of Ritchie Bros. at several locations in Europe have no minimum prices, but in return there is a large international audience of buyers bidding against each other. Last year, Ritchie Bros. Benelux sold more than 13,000 items during six auctions. There were more than 12,000 bidders from 84 different countries. The highest bidder wins the machine and payment follows within 21 days. This year there are still auctions in Moerdijk on Sept. 17 & 18 and Nov. 27 & 28. Bidding is possible from the Friday before and on Monday and Tuesday during the auction week there are viewing days (8.00-16.00) to inspect machines.
Did you know that Ritchie Bros. buys direct in some cases? For specific machines and situations, we offer the option of direct sales. We inspect the fleet, estimate the value and make an offer. If the price is agreed upon, we pay immediately and the seller has nothing else to worry about.
